Roland Rogers Elementary School in Galloway, NJ, hosted it’s 8th annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation signature head-shaving event on Thursday, March 15th. The event is to raise funds for lifesaving childhood cancer research. With a goal of raising $25,000 40 plus participants registered to shave their head and/or donate their hair to support the Foundation’s mission to fund the best research to find cures and better treatments for kids with cancer!

This event held at Roland Rogers has raised almost $90,000 for lifesaving cancer research over seven years. The staff of Tangles Beauty Studio donated their time on Thursday and Fridays events and also raised money through their location to give to such a wonderful cause. Male and female students shaved their heads and/or donated their hair at Thursday evenings event. A school assembly was held Friday, March 16th at 9:15am for the students favorite part of the two day event, “Staff shaving to Rock The Bald”. Male and female teachers raised money through various outlets the biggest being their students. The teachers set a goal and the students contribute in order for their teacher to shave their heads. The organizer of this event is teacher Brian Dunn, along with Roland Rogers FSA they manage to get donations for the classrooms to win pizza parties, ice cream parties and the big event a backyard bbq party. Each year Brian Dunn sets a goal hoping to make it, this year was no different. They not only met their goal but exceeded with over $26,000 raised at this event alone bringing their overall total raised to date over $100,000.

This amazing event shows the true hearts of Galloway showing through from the wee little ones to the elderly. Every year I am amazed at how couragious these young boys and girls are shaving and/or donating their hair. Congratulations to all who participated in this heart-warming charity event.
