Congratulations Collin Wiener

Collin Wiener received his Eagle Scout on January 3, 2012. Collin is a scout with troop 77 here in Galloway. His Eagle Scout project included the clean up and construction at the Somers family cemetery in Somers Point, NJ. Collin and fellow Scouts from Troop 77 raked and removed years of leaves, trimmed trees and their limbs, and constructed a set of railings leading down to the cemetery. The project was at the request of the Somers Point Historical Society.

On Sept. 4, 1804 Richard Somers commanded the USS Intrepid in Tripoli. His ship prematurely blew up and Richard Somers was killed. His body was buried in Libya, removed, and reburied. The remains are unknown. However, our government is on the project of finding the remains of the USS Intrepid crew to include Richard Somers. the hopes are that the remains will be found, exhumed, and brought to his final resting place in the Somers Family cemetery.

Collin was also accepted to West Point’s Summer Leadership Program, an extremely demanding and competetive leadership program. There he will enroll in Army tactic classes, physical training, and many preparation courses to mold the Officers of the future in our United States Army. In addition, Collin was also acepted to the American Legion’s Boys State program. Boys State is as well competitive. It is also a week long mock government program. Introduced to educate our youth on government and it’s agenda’s.

Collin hopes to attend The United States Military Academy at West Point, the US Naval Academy, or the United States Coast Guard Academy.
