Absegami Guys and Dolls – OVER 600 PHOTOS

The Absegami High School Performing Arts Center filled up March 9, 10, and 11 to see the Emanon Players production of the classic Broadway musical “Guys and Dolls”. Decades before Times Square became the family-friendly tourist mecca it is today or the seedy wasteland it was in the 1970s, Depression-era Broadway attracted a mix of high and low, socialites and hell-raisers. Writer Damon Runyon found fame chronicling life in and around the Great White Way, and his humorous tales inspired Guys and Dolls, on of the best Broadway musicals ever written. Guys and Dolls has been mounted on the Absegami stage twice before, with memorable productions in 1992 and again in the summer theatre program in 2009. This performance was an absolute joy to watch. If you have seen the musical with the Hollywood actors such as Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons, Vivain Blaine to name a few, then you know the story of a group of degenerate gamblers in search of a traveling craps game in New York City. The students in the play performed these parts to the tee. The mannerisms and voices portrayed in the movie were spot on with characters seen by the Emanon Players. You could really tell that the performers enjoyed this musical. They did such an amazing job that if you have never been to one of their performances than you must. Join them on Thursday, May 3 and Friday May 4 at 6:30pm to see their performance of “Macbeth” by William Shakespeare.
