The annual Salute to Veterans in Galloway provided a free BBQ for all area veterans following a remembrance memorial service at the Galloway Veterans Park on Route 9 this past Saturday.
The weather was perfect for the event. Absegami’s band played for the crowd during the memorial service that featured guest speakers and a very special flag folding service.
Last Salute, Galloway’s official Military Funeral Honor Guard, conducted a full honors memorial service including the firing of a cannon, ringing of memorial bell, rifle volley and the refolding of a flag last folded at Arlington National Cemetery in 1971.
The flag, was presented to the Johnson Family in honor of William Johnson who at 19 died in Vietnam and was laid to rest at Arlington. William Johnson grew up in Atlantic County. Last Salute was honored to refold the flag folded at his funeral in 1971.
